(Panel Discussion

【Grateful & Inspired! The 2026 Health Data Science Global Summit Forum was a massive success in Taipei!】

Yesterday (July 18), the "2026 Health Data Science Global Summit Forum"—hosted by the OHDSI Taiwan Society and co-organized by Taipei Medical University and the Taiwan Bio Industry Organization—officially wrapped up at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center!

The energy completely blew past our expectations! We had a packed house with over 400 experts and scholars joining us in person. Amazingly, 25% of our attendees flew in from 23 different countries, creating an incredible vibe for global networking. To make things even more exciting, we tied the entire event into the ongoing World Cup fever! From the main visuals and stage backdrops to the award screens, the venue was buzzing with high-octane stadium elements that kept the crowd hyped all day long!

This milestone event successfully brought together world-class science and World Cup energy. A huge shout-out to everyone who made it happen:

🙏 Special thanks to our government leaders for their incredible support and vision We were deeply honored to have Dr. Jen-Hsiang Chuang (Vice Minister of MOHW) and Dr. Lian-Yu Chen (Director General of NHIA) join us in person, along with Dr. Chien-Chang Lee (Director General of MOHW Information Department) connecting live from Taichung. With such strong policy backing, Taiwan's smart healthcare data ecosystem is ready to make a huge leap onto the global stage.

🌍 An incredible meetup of global minds A massive thank you to our amazing speakers who traveled from afar: Prof. Dani Prieto-Alhambra from the University of Oxford, Prof. Seng Chan You from Yonsei University, and Mui Van Zandt, VP & GM from IQVIA. We also want to thank Prof. George Hripcsak from Columbia University and Patrick Ryan, VP from Janssen, for recording their powerful keynote speeches across oceans and time zones.

💬 Our action-packed Panel Discussion The morning panel was the ultimate highlight, and it kicked off with the fast-paced intensity of a World Cup match! I started the session as the moderator, and right as the game warmed up, Prof. Chien-Tien Su made a perfect "last-minute goal" arrival and took over the torch with amazing energy!

Our global panelists dived deep into generating high-value RWE and its real-world clinical applications. We talked about how massive standardized data is reshaping regulations in the US and Europe, how it breaks Taiwan's market size limits, and how AI tools can seamlessly connect medicine with data science. Our takeaway was clear: let the Society and TMU handle the heavy lifting of tech and regulatory frameworks. Our partners just need to focus on "asking the right clinical questions," and this network will help everyone score big in the global arena!

💡 Launching the TaiHDEN Blueprint We officially announced the project we’ve been working so hard on: the Taiwan Health Data and Evidence Network (TaiHDEN). By building a globally trusted network for real-world analytics, we aim to speed up clinical AI—moving it from raw algorithms straight to the bedside to support doctors and patients.

🏆 Congrats to all our award-winning research teams The poster competition during lunchtime was intense—just like the World Cup knockout stage! Huge congratulations to the winning teams in Data Infrastructure, Clinical Applications, and Frontier Tech. Your brilliant research is the foundational stepping stone for our future multinational and multi-center collaborations.

At the end of the day, data science isn't just about how much data you have. It's about how we collaborate and share to unlock the true value of healthcare. The forum might be over, but our global team play has just kicked off. Thank you again to all our distinguished guests, partners, and our hardworking secretariat and volunteers. Wishing you all a wonderful, healthy year ahead! See you next year!
