[International Conference] 2025 OHDSI Europe Symposium: Observing Emerging Trends in European Health Data
In July 2025, Professor Jason C. Hsu, President of the OHDSI Taiwan Society, represented Taiwan at the annual OHDSI Europe Symposium held in Hasselt, Belgium. This three-day event featured pre-symposium workshops, main conference sessions, a poster showcase, and a high-level policy forum—offering a comprehensive overview of Europe’s latest advancements in health data standardization, cross-sector collaboration, and policy development.
📌 Pre-Symposium Workshops
Focused on practical training in the OMOP-CDM framework, ETL processes, and the ATLAS tool, enabling participants to strengthen both technical capabilities and their understanding of OHDSI’s open science community values through hands-on experience.
📌 Main Conference Sessions
Under the theme “Global Collaboration, Local Implementation,” the symposium highlighted successful cases such as the UK NHS’s integration of Study-a-thons, Finland’s application of Swarm Learning combining AI and federated methods, and the UK’s AMR project linking data to policy—demonstrating the maturity and integration of real-world data applications across Europe.
📌 Poster Showcase
The OHDSI Taiwan team presented a poster titled “Cardiovascular Effects of SGLT2 Inhibitors in Advanced CKD,” sharing clinical application findings and exchanging experiences in data governance, methodological innovation, and evidence generation with international research teams.
📌 Focus Forum
The high-level forum, titled “Bridging Policy and Practice,” centered on the development of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), emphasizing key concepts such as Federated Analysis, Data Quality Accountability, and Public-Private Partnership. These discussions offer valuable institutional and technical insights for Taiwan’s future participation in global health data collaboration.
This symposium not only reinforced international connections but also underscored OHDSI Taiwan’s role in the global real-world evidence (RWE) ecosystem. The Society will continue to engage global resources and deepen local implementation to advance health data research in Taiwan.
